Why Is House of Bijan So Expensive? Prices, Service and Value

Start here

What’s This About

House of Bijan is expensive because it sells by appointment, makes small runs by hand in Italy, uses rare materials and charges for its Rodeo Drive name; a well-fitting suit costs far less elsewhere.

Key Points

01Bijan Pakzad founded House of Bijan in 1976; his son Nicolas has run it since 2011.

02The Beverly Hills shop moved to 443 North Rodeo Drive and sees clients by appointment.

03In 2018 CNN described a $12,000 (about £8,950 at October 2026 exchange rates) pinstripe suit and a $48,000 (about £36,000) lizard-skin jacket bought there; check current prices.

04Famous clients do not prove that a suit is better made.

House of Bijan is a Beverly Hills menswear house on Rodeo Drive, known for selling by appointment and for prices far above most designer suits.

This guide explains who runs it, what the prices have been reported to be, what that money pays for and how to decide whether Bijan, or a suit like it, is worth it for you.

Who Runs House of Bijan

Bijan Pakzad, who was born in Tehran, founded House of Bijan on Rodeo Drive in 1976, and he died in 2011.

His son, Nicolas Bijan Pakzad, has run the business since then, according to the Beverly Hills Courier in 2022; Robb Report Singapore described him in 2019 as co-chief executive.

The Beverly Hills Courier also mentions his sister, Alexandra, but the dated sources we found name Nicolas as the person leading the business.

Where Bijan Sells

For decades the shop stood at 420 North Rodeo Drive, a building that LVMH bought in 2016; reported prices for that sale differ, with Apparel News giving $122 million and Robb Report Singapore $169 million.

Apparel News reported in February 2020 that Bijan had moved across the street to 443 North Rodeo Drive, a three-storey building that serves as its appointment-only shop and headquarters.

In April 2018, Haute Living reported that Bijan would open a boutique at the Wynn in Las Vegas in May which, unlike the Beverly Hills shop, does not require an appointment.

A Manhattan shop on Fifth Avenue operated until 2002, according to the Beverly Hills Courier.

Shops open and close, so check the brand’s own website for current locations before you plan a visit.

What Bijan Costs

Bijan does not publish a price list, so the figures below are dated reports rather than current prices.

CNN reported in 2018 that Bijan T-shirts started at $700 (about £520), tie sets cost $950 (about £710) and exotic-skin garments could reach $100,000 (about £74,500), and it described a $12,000 (about £8,950) pinstripe suit and a $48,000 (about £36,000) lizard-skin jacket bought there.

Prices like these are well above most luxury ready-to-wear suits, and Haute Living called the Las Vegas shop the world’s most expensive boutique in 2018.

What the Price Pays For

Appointment-only service

The Beverly Hills shop sees clients by appointment, and Nicolas Bijan told CNN in 2018 that “if we have more than one client in the boutique at the same time, it’s chaos”.

Serving one client at a time spreads the cost of the shop and staff over fewer sales, which is reflected in the prices.

Making and materials

CNN reported that Bijan clothing is handmade in Tuscany, and that usually only one or two copies of each design are produced.

Bijan also works with rare and costly materials such as vicuña and exotic skins, which add a great deal to the price of a garment.

Bijan does not publish details of its tailoring construction, so ask how a suit is made, how many fittings are included and how long it will take.

The shop and the name

Much of the price pays for the setting, the service and the name, meaning the Rodeo Drive address, the family story and a client list the company says includes five US presidents.

The Beverly Hills Courier reported in 2022 that Nicolas Bijan displays letters from Presidents George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama and Donald Trump.

Famous clients show who has shopped at Bijan; they do not prove that a suit is better made than one from another tailor, and wearing the label does not change how other people judge you.

Is House of Bijan a Luxury Brand?

By the usual measures, yes. Its reported prices are among the highest in menswear, it sells by appointment in Beverly Hills, and CNN reported in 2018 that it makes only one or two copies of each design, in rare materials.

It is a young house by luxury standards, though, since Bijan Pakzad founded it in 1976, while Hermès dates from 1837 and Louis Vuitton opened its first shop in 1854.

It is also a family-run business with very few shops, so whether it counts as luxury matters less to you than whether its clothes fit and suit the way you dress.

Is Bijan Worth It?

Judge any very expensive suit against these criteria rather than on the price or the name.

Fit. A suit that fits your shoulders, chest and waist well matters more than any label; ask how many fittings are included.

Construction. Ask whether the jacket is canvassed and hand finished, and check the buttonholes, seams and pattern matching yourself.

Cloth. A fine worsted wool in navy or grey is the most useful suit cloth; rare fibres and exotic skins add cost without making a suit more versatile.

Use. A suit worn every working week earns its price far faster than a statement garment worn a few times a year.

Value. Bespoke tailors on Savile Row and elsewhere make suits to a personal pattern, often for a fraction of the Bijan prices reported in 2018.

A high price does not prove higher quality.

On balance, Bijan’s prices pay mostly for exclusivity, private service and rare materials; if you want a well-made, well-fitting suit, a good bespoke or made-to-measure tailor offers that for far less.

How to Wear a Statement Suit

Very expensive suits often come in luxurious cloths and bold colours, and a few rules keep a statement suit wearable.

For evening events, wear a navy cashmere-blend suit, a white shirt, a navy silk tie and black calf Oxford shoes.

Smart weekends call for a camel or chocolate-brown jacket, a cream knitted polo, grey wool trousers and brown suede loafers.

Let one garment carry the colour or texture, and keep the shirt, tie and shoes plain around it.
