What’s This About
Zegna shirts cost several hundred to a few thousand dollars because of their fabrics, from fine cotton to cotton and cashmere, silk and wool, Italian tailoring and the brand’s premium, and they are worth it only if the fabric and fit suit how you will wear them.

Key Points
01On 7 October 2026 Zegna’s Middle East site priced shirts from 2,625 to 13,000 UAE dirhams, about $715 to $3,540 (about £535 to £2,650 at October 2026 exchange rates).
02Cashco, a blend of cotton and cashmere, dates from 1993, according to Zegna’s foundation.
03Fabric explains most of the price difference within Zegna’s own shirt range.
04Price does not equal quality, so check the collar, seams and fit yourself.
Zegna shirts are priced well above most dress shirts, and the gap is large enough that many men want to know what they are paying for.
This guide explains what sets the price of a Zegna shirt, which fabrics cost the most, what to check before buying and how Zegna compares with other shirtmakers.

Zegna in Brief
Ermenegildo Zegna founded the company in 1910, aged 18, as a wool mill in Trivero, in northern Italy, and it is still best known for its cloth.
Since 2021 its clothes have been sold under one brand, ZEGNA, and the group also owns most of Thom Browne and, since 2023, runs Tom Ford’s fashion business.
For the brand’s suits, see our guides to why Zegna suits are so expensive and whether a Zegna suit is worth it.
Why Zegna Shirts Cost So Much
Zegna does not publish a cost breakdown, so any exact split of a shirt’s price into fabric, labour and profit would be a guess.
What can be said with confidence is which costs it carries that a high-street shirt does not.
1. The fabric
Zegna describes its shirts as made in premium cotton, Cashco Oxford, Cashco, pure silk and cashmere blends.
Cashco is Zegna’s blend of cotton and cashmere, which its foundation dates to 1993; it feels softer and warmer than plain cotton and suits casual shirts in cooler months.
Sea Island cotton is a long-staple cotton prized for its smooth, silky feel, and long-staple cottons in general give a finer, more lustrous shirting.
Silk and wool shirts sit at the top of the range, but they are delicate and need more careful washing than cotton.
2. The cut and collar
Zegna offers slim and classic fits, with spread collars and collars cut in one with the band, according to its shirt pages.
A collar cut in one with its band has no separate collar stand, so it sits lower and softer around the neck, which suits wearing a shirt open without a tie.
3. The brand, shops and service
Some of every luxury price pays for the name, shops on expensive streets, trained staff and advertising rather than the shirt itself.
That premium is the main reason a shirt in a similar fabric can cost much less from a specialist shirtmaker.
What to Check Before You Buy
Whatever the label, these checks tell you more about a shirt than its price.
Fabric. Read the composition label and feel the cloth; a dense, smooth weave wears better than a thin, loose one.
On the collar, the points should sit flat and even, and the collar should close without pinching when buttoned.
Seams. Look for small, even stitches and flat seams that do not pucker along the sides and sleeves.
Pattern. On striped or checked shirts, the pattern should line up at the front placket and pockets.
Buttons should be firmly sewn and sit straight in their holes.
For fit, the shoulder seam should sit at the edge of your shoulder, and the cuff should reach the base of your thumb.
Zegna Compared With Other Shirtmakers
Turnbull & Asser in London is known for classic English dress shirts with bold stripes and a fuller cut.
Borrelli in Naples is known for soft, hand-finished Neapolitan shirts.
Ralph Lauren Purple Label offers classic American-styled shirts at the top of that brand’s range.
The Italian tailoring houses Brioni and Kiton also sell shirts at prices similar to or above Zegna’s.
Zegna’s distinctive point is fabric, especially its own Cashco cloth, while the specialists are better known for traditional shirtmaking details.
Try the same size and collar from two or three makers and choose by fit and fabric rather than by name.
Is a Zegna Shirt Worth It?
It depends on what you value, so judge it on these criteria rather than on the price alone.
Fabric. Cashco is Zegna’s own cotton and cashmere cloth; other makers sell cotton and cashmere shirts, often for much less, so compare the feel and the blend before you pay for the name.
In use, a white or light blue cotton shirt worn every week earns its price far faster than a silk shirt kept for evenings.
Durability. Very fine cotton, silk and cashmere blends feel softer but wear faster than sturdier shirting.
On value, a specialist shirtmaker can sell a shirt in good cotton for much less, so compare before you buy.
On balance, a Zegna shirt makes most sense when you specifically want its Cashco or another Zegna cloth, not because the blend is rare, while a classic white dress shirt is usually better value from a specialist shirtmaker.
How to Wear a Zegna Shirt
Wear a light blue cotton shirt with a spread collar, a navy wool suit, a dark knitted tie and dark brown Oxford shoes.
Wear a cream Cashco shirt with a soft collar, open at the neck, under a brown suede jacket, with grey flannel trousers and brown suede loafers.
Wear a navy Cashco shirt worn untucked, stone chinos and white leather trainers, with a camel coat in cold weather.
Caring for an Expensive Shirt
Follow the care label, wash cotton shirts at a low temperature and hang them to dry on a shaped hanger.
Have silk and cashmere blend shirts cleaned professionally if the label says so, and iron cotton while it is still slightly damp.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Why are Zegna shirts so expensive?
The price covers fine and blended fabrics, Italian tailoring, and the name, shops and service of a luxury house.
Q. What is Cashco?
Cashco is Zegna’s blend of cotton and cashmere, introduced in 1993 according to its foundation, and it is softer and warmer than plain cotton.
Q. Are Zegna shirts better than other luxury shirts?
Zegna’s strength is its fabrics, but price alone does not prove quality, so compare the collar, seams and fit with other shirtmakers.
